Government to deliver on mental-health staff numbers

Pre-budget Campaign

A new pre-Budget campaign has been launched today, urging the Government to spend millions of euro on mental health services.

The Mental Health Reform group said that the Coalition has promised to spend €35m a year.

Director Orla Barry says while the money is there, it has been slow to trickle down to important services.

"We've actually seen that in the last two years, it has been really slow to deliver the staff for multi-disciplinary teams that that money is primarily going to," she said.

"It's really important for the sake of our mental health services to ensure that they're actually operating in the way that people need them to operate, as community-based services, that people support this campaign."
