It was a beautiful sunny day and the members distributed over 200 ribbons among the busy shoppers of Bray. A great number of interesting conversations was had with people about mental health issues. A few Cairdeas Clubhouse leaflets were given out as well and they displayed some of their Green Ribbon Artwork. Many thanks to Michelle from the Bray Area Partnership who also joined Cairdeas on the day. All who took part felt it was a great success.

New Horizon - Tallaght Hospital Green Ribbon Event

Tallaght Hospital held their Green Ribbon event in Killinarden Community Centre on May 10th.

Prof. George Swanwick gave a fascinating talk, for mental health awareness month, about mental health as you age. He was very informative about the connection between physical and mental health e.g. Alzheimer’s. He explained that there was an increase in the age of people suffering mental health issues over the last few years.

There were several stands representing the various groups who deal with mental health. EVE New Horizon had a stand there on the day.  New Horizon handed out envelopes containing a teabag, coffee, biscuits, a green ribbon and a message on the front and inside of the envelop encouraging people to ‘Have a cuppa have a chat’.

On Monday the 8th May, Platinum Clubhouse held an information talk about LGBT matters in the clubhouse. Two ladies hosting the event, Pauline and Colette, were very informative. A wide range of subjects were covered from gay rights to the challenges of daily life and how we can change attitudes towards LGBT people. The event was well attended and the members felt a lot of information was gained from the talk.
