World Mental Health Week

Sunday 7th to Saturday 13th October 2012.

This year’s World Mental Health Day falls on Wednesday, October 10th. There are a number of organisations compiling events happening throughout the country. Two of these are Mental Health Ireland and See Change.

Mental Health Ireland (MHI) the largest voluntary organisation involved in mental health issues, will be marking the event with a number of initiatives happening around this date.

MHI will be running two national campaigns again this year for World Mental Health Week, the  Building Resilience Together Project launched in 2010 and the National Choral Singing Week.

MHI Development Officers will be linking in with local Mental Health Associations to assist with the planning and organisation of these campaigns to take place around World Mental Health Day. They will be uploading a comprehensive list of activities, grouped by county, once they have the information available, please see their website for further updates - Click here for events in Dublin South and Wicklow.

See Change is Ireland’s national programme working to change minds about mental health problems in Ireland. They are working in partnership with over forty organisations to create a disruptive, community driven social movement to reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with mental health problems. See Change are passionate about equality, and part of their mission is to ensure that everyone enjoys the same rights on an equal basis.

Similar to the Mental Health Week calendar See Change compiled in 2011, they are compiling another for 2012. They are seeking organisations to submit any events/projects taking place around World Mental Health Week. It is also a good opportunity to promote routine events/services that also happen to take place during that week. The Calendar will be hosted on their website with regular social media updates to inform their followers of what is going on across the country to highlight mental health within their communities.
